MARIETTA, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell on the road 61-42 against Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (5-9, 2-5 OAC) were led on offense by senior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) with eight points and five rebounds.
Marietta (10-4, 5-2 OAC) was led by Olivia Gribble with 11 points.
The first quarter was a defensive battle as neither team scored double digits with Marietta leading 9-5.
Marietta scored the first bucket but two quick buckets by freshman
Audrey Livesay (Akron / Revere) got the Raiders within two and forced a Marietta timeout. Marietta responded with an 8-2 run in the quarter to get a 21-11 lead.
Marietta finished the half on a 7-0 run to take a 28-14 lead into the halftime break.
Marietta started where they finished the break and went on a 13-5 run to take a 41-19 lead. Mount Union finished the quarter on a 6-1 run to trail 46-29 after three quarters.
Marietta outscored Mount Union 15-13 over the final period.
Mount Union concludes its three-game road trip with a trip to Westerville on Saturday taking on Otterbein with a 4 p.m. tip off.
