WESTERVILLE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell 53-45 to Otterbein in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (5-10, 2-6 OAC) were led on offense by senior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) with 13 points and six rebounds. Senior
Gretchen Koken (Harmony, Pa. / Seneca Valley) was one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds
Otterbein (9-6, 5-3 OAC) was led by Kathleen DeCarlo and Jenna Hoschouer with 12 points and seven rebounds each.
Otterbein got the game scoring the first four points, but Mount Union responded with a 10-3 run from the 8:19 mark to the 3:05 mark. Otterbein found the bottom of the bucket one more time before the quarter as the teams were tied at 10 after one.
Hudik went on her own run of 6-2 over Otterbein to start the second quarter to give Mount Union a lead of 16-12 with 8:31 left in the half. Otterbein got going as they went on a 10-2 run causing a Mount Union time out with five minutes left in the half. The Raiders closed in on Otterbein the final five minuets as they trailed 27-24 at the half.
Otterbein outscored Mount Union 19-5 in the third quarter to take a 46-29 lead. The Raiders began the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to get within 11 to stay within reach of Otterbein. Otterbein pushed the lead out to 53-39 but one last push from Mount Union got within eight but ran out of time finishing 53-45.
Mount Union returns home to take on Muskingum Wednesday, January 18th at 7 p.m. in OAC play.
