FULL RESULTS

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union wrestling team hosted the Purple Raider Open, including teams from NCAA Division I on Sunday.
 
First-year Darese Sparkman (Massillon, OH / Massillon Perry) advanced the furthest among the Raiders as he placed sixth, losing in the semifinals at 149 pounds and going 3-1 on the day - all against NCAA Division I opponents. Sparkman won by fall over both Edinboro's Gannon Jaquay (Fall 2:10) and West Virginia's Mike Pescatore (Fall 6:17), before beating Lock Haven's Kaiden Wagner by decision (Dec 8-4) in the quarterfinals.
 
Raider first-year Andrew Magness (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) went 2-1 at 133 pounds, while first-year Riley Kneeland (Greenville, PA / Greenville) also earned a win at 149 pounds (1-2).
 
Also competing for Mount Union were first-years Mason Esterline (Brookville, OH / Brookville) (0-2 at 141), Nicholas Nettleton (Exeter, PA / Exeter Township) (0-2 at 157), and Nicholas Chaddock (Minerva, OH / Minerva) (0-2 at 184).
 
Mount Union will next compete at Ohio Northern on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match.
