ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated Heidelberg 70-45 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (6-11, 3-7 OAC) were led by senior
Emma Cannon (Dalton) scoring a game-high 19 points.
Senior
Gretchen Koken (Cranberry, PA. / Seneca Valley) and
Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) scored 10 points each as Koken also picked up nine rebounds.
Heidelberg (2-15, 0-10 OAC) was led by Hallie Rogers with 10 points.
Mount Union got off to a hot start with Cannon scoring the first four points and Koken adding a free throw to take a 5-0 lead. The Raiders pushed that lead out to 11-3 before each team started trading baskets taking a 22-9 lead into the end of the quarter.
The second quarter Heidelberg got with in nine twice in the second quarter but a jumper each from sophomores Hailee Haywood (Barberton) and
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) to extend the lead to 36-22 into the halftime break.
The third quarter saw Mount Union outscore Heidelberg 26-15 with Mount Union leading 62-37 going into the final quarter. The Raiders finished off the game not allowing Heidelberg to get closer than 24 in the final quarter taking the victory.
Mount Union remains at home for an OAC matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m. taking on John Carroll.
