ALLIANCE, Ohio-- The Mount Union women's basketball team was defeated 65-60 against the John Carroll Blue Streaks in a rivalry Ohio Athletic Conference matchup in the Timken Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

The Purple Raiders (6-12, 3-8 OAC) were led by seniors
Gretchen Koken (Harmony/Seneca Valley) and
Madison Hensley (Blacklick/Gahana Lincoln) both with 18 points. Sophomore
Dae Dae Nash (Akron/Buchtel) would score 11 points.

Kaelyn Underwood led the Blue Streaks (10-8, 5-6 OAC) with a game high 20 points. Halle Landies finished the game with 13 points.

John Carroll began the game hot as Halle Landies made the team's first six points off two shots from behind the three-point line. The Raiders would answer immediately, scoring six straight points to tie the game up at 6-6. As both teams would trade basket-for-basket, the Raiders would score the last five points of the quarter, giving them a 18-17 lead.

Koken would open the second quarter with the team's first four points to help give the Raiders a 22-17 lead. The Raiders stretched the lead to eight points with the help from Hensley who scored six points in the quarter. After a good quarter of shooting, the Raiders lead the Blue Streaks at halftime 36-26.

John Carroll would reduce the lead throughout the third quarter by going on a 6-0 run at the 4:37 minute mark as the lead was reduced to 39-35. Koken would continue her scoring as she scored seven points in the quarter. The Blue Streaks would go on another 8-0 scoring run to end the quarter, reducing the lead to just one point as the Raiders were up 44-43.

The Blue Streaks took their first lead of the game to open the fourth and final quarter as Kaylie McKenney scored a layup to make it 45-44. Later in the quarter, Nash would score five straight points to give the Raiders a 54-52 lead with 4:29 left in regulation. John Carroll's lead managed to stay close as they were up 61-57 with a minute left icing out the game making free throws to win 65-60.

Mount Union's next game is in Ada, Ohio as they hit the road to play Ohio Northern at 4 p.m. this Saturday.
