ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 12 nationally ranked Mount Union men's soccer team defeated Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 3-0 on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (11-1-1, 2-1-1 OAC) would strike first when sophomore
AJ Jaber (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) scored off assists from seniors
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) and
Omar Najjar (Akron / Revere) to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would then extend their lead in the 32
nd minute this time senior
Jamon McCort (Magnolia / Sandy Valley) found the back of the net off an assist from senior
Zak Peterjohn (North Royalton) to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Freshman
Dom Kustura (Willowick / Eastlake North) would add to the Raider lead with a goal in the 77
th minute. The Pioneers (3-9-1, 1-3-0 OAC) wouldn't be able to answer over the final 13 minutes of action as Mount Union would go on to win 3-0.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jackson Callender (Cleveland Heights / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) recorded his fourth shutout of the season in the victory.
The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Columbus to take on Capital on Saturday, October 14 at 1 p.m.
