NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The No. 10 nationally ranked Mount Union men's soccer team beat Muskingum 7-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (13-1-1, 4-1-1 OAC) struck first scoring just two and a half minutes into the game when senior
Jordan Akins (Cuyahoga Falls) found the back of the net off an assist from senior
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele). Akins would score again just 38 seconds later to make the lead 2-0. Hancock would add a goal in the 22
nd minute, scoring off an assist from senior
Omar Najjar (Akron / Revere). Sophomore
Braedon Kennedy (Strongsville) scored his first career goal in the 45
th minute to give Mount Union a 4-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
The Fighting Muskies (3-11-1, 1-5-0 OAC) would answer with a goal from Terrance Wright in the 54
th minute.
The Raiders would extend their lead back to four goals in the 62
nd minute when senior
Zak Peterjohn (North Royalton) scored off an assist from senior
Jon Szydlowski (Twinsburg). Mount Union would add another goal under a minute later this time off the foot of senior
Jarrett Lukacsko (Gahanna / Gahanna Lincoln) to make the lead 6-1. Freshman
Tyler Harsch (Aliquippa, Pa. / Central Valley) found the back of the net off an assist from freshman
Cole Sigan (Olmsted Falls) in the 88
th minute as they would go on to win 7-1.
The Raiders return home next when they host Wilmington on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. at Kehres Stadium.
