ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 14 nationally ranked Mount Union men's soccer team defeated Heidelberg 3-0 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday night.
The Purple Raiders (10-1-1, 1-1-1 OAC) struck first when senior
Adam Kalvitz (Avon) found senior
Jamon McCort (Magnolia / Sandy Valley) who found the back of the net in the 6th minute putting the Purple Raiders in the lead 1-0. Mount Union extended their lead in the 31st minute with a goal by senior
Omar Najjar (Akron / Revere) making the score 2-0.
The Student Princes (3-8-1, 0-3 OAC) were unable to answer in the first half keeping Mount Union in the lead 2-0 going into halftime.
Mount Union scored again in the 68th minute to when fifth year
Jon Szydlowski (Twinsburg) found freshman
Alex Depperschmidt (Mansfield / Lexington) to extend their lead 3-0. Mount Union was able to end the game with a shoutout and the final score 3-0.
Junior goalkeeper
Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) recorded his first shutout of the season in the victory.
The Raiders are back home next when they host Marietta in an OAC matchup on Wednesday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
