KALAMAZOO, Michigan—The women's basketball team defeated Kalamazoo (Mich.) 73-52 Saturday afternoon to advance to the championships of the Kalamazoo College Tournament.
The Purple Raiders (2-0) were led by freshman
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuskey Valley Central Catholic) with 18 points.
Freshman
Tess Conroy (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights) finished the game with eight rebounds while freshman
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) had nine points going perfect from the free throw line making all five attempts.
Kalamazoo (0-1) was led by Jackie Brines who had 17 points and seven rebounds while Kaelyn Arlington finished with 16 rebounds.
Mount Union jumped out to a 25-11 led after one quarter of play connecting on five three pointers and grabbing 15 rebounds while Kalamazoo shot just 21.4% from the field and grabbing only nine rebounds.
The second quarter saw Mount Union outscore Kalamazoo 11-10 in a defensive battle as the Raiders had five steals as Kalamazoo had none. Mount Union held Kalamazoo to just one made field goal on 10 shot attempts while Mount Union finished with five made buckets in the quarter to take a 36-21 halftime lead.
Mount Union held a lead of 15 plus over the final two quarters outscoring Kalamazoo 37-31 over the quarters taking the 73-52 win.
Mount Union will take on Westminster (Pa.) tomorrow Sunday, November 12th at 3 PM in Kalamazoo, Mich.
