Women's Basketball: Raiders Take Down Westminster (Pa.) in Championship Game; Reese Triplett Named Tournament MVP

KALAMAZOO, Michigan—The Mount Union women's basketball team used a 10-point first quarter advantage to defeat Westminster (Pa.) 67-49 in the Teammates for Life Tip-off Tournament championship game hosted by Kalamazoo (Mich.).
 
The Purple Raiders (3-0) were led by All-Tournament selection in freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) scoring 20 points while tournament MVP freshman Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuskey Valley Central Catholic) finished with 14 points.
 
Sophomore Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) finished the game with a game-high nine rebounds while scoring seven points and junior Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) finished the game with a team-high four assists.
 
Westminster (1-1) was led by Camden Hergenrother scoring 14 points and Caitlyn Condoleon finishing with seven rebounds.
 
Mount Union avenged last year's loss to Westminster by dominating the first quarter outscoring Westminster 16-6 and holding Westminster to just 17.6% from the field. The Raiders finished the quarter at 41.7% while hitting six of eight from the free throw line.
 
The second quarter saw Mason and Triplett each score eight points to help Mount Union push its halftime lead out to 39-25. Westminster shot over 50% in the quarter but let Mount Union out rebound them 11-4 in the quarter.
 
Over the last two quarters Mount Union outscored Westminster 28-24 to take the championship victory.
 
Mount Union will rest up over the next nine days as the next game will be the home opener in Alliance on Tuesday, November 21st against Oberlin with a 7 PM tip off.
