ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union women's basketball team fell in its home opener 75-54 to Oberlin in non-conference matchup Tuesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (3-1) were led by freshman
Brooklyn Mosher (Caledonia / River Valley) who scored 11 points. Freshman
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance, Marlington) led the Raiders with 10 rebounds and eight points.
Oberlin (5-0) was led by Angela Kumler with 22 points.
QUARTER 1
In the first quarter, Mount Union got the first bucket scored by freshman
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tusky Valley), but with 20 straight points from Oberlin gave them a 20-2 lead. The Raiders would then battle back when
Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) would score a 3 pointer and Mason scored a layup. Oberlin then responded with a 3 pointer of their own, ultimately resulting in the Raiders being down 23-7.
QUARTER 2
The Raiders started the second quarter off strong when Triplett hit a 3 pointer, followed by
Sierra Schlosser (Galloway / Bishop Ready) scoring a layup, and then Triplett scoring off of a free throw. Oberlin then answered with 6 points.
Hailey Haywood (Barberton / Barberton), Mason,
Tess Conroy (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights),
Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic), and Mosher collectively would score the next 17 points for the Raiders. The Raiders outscored Oberlin 20-16 but fell short of taking the lead. The halftime score was in Oberlin's favor 39-27.
QUARTER 3
Oberlin outscored the Raiders 19-11 in the third quarter. Mosher led the Raiders with 4 points. The score of the third quarter resulted in Oberlin's favor 58-38.
QUARTER 4
Oberlin outscored the Raiders 17-16 in the fourth quarter.
Grace Wolfe led the Raiders with 5 points. The Purple Raiders ultimately lost 75-54.
The Purple Raiders travel to Cleveland on Tuesday, November 28 or a non-conference matchup against Case Western Reserve University at 7:00pm.
