Men's Basketball: No. 5 Raiders Cage Bobcats in Home Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 5 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Pitt-Greensburg 113-79 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday evening.

The Purple Raiders (4-0) had five players score in double figures, with senior Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a game-high 21 points. Senior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) added in 14 points, with senior Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) and freshman Jahlil Graham (Canton / McKinley) both scoring 12 points and sophomore Corey Hudson (Columbus / Pickerington) rounded out the Raiders in double digits with 11.

The Bobcats (0-3) were led by Micah Jones who scored a team-high 17, with Matthew Marinchak adding in 14 and James Evans-McQuay scoring 12.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to an early 11-6 lead before three straight baskets by Parker started a 15-2 run over the next 3:11 to give Mount Union a 21-13 lead with 12:20 to play in the first half. The Bobcats would cut the lead down to three with 7:33 remaining in the first half before the Raiders would outscore them 30-11 over the final 7:30 of the first half to take a 60-38 lead into the halftime break.

The Raiders would open the second half with a 14-4 run to push the lead to 32 with 15:52 remaining in the game. Pitts-Greensburg would cut the lead down to 28 at multiple points in the second half but that is the closest that they would be able to get as Mount Union would go on to win 113-79.

The Raiders are home again next when they host Wooster on Wednesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
