Men's Basketball: No. 5 Raiders Roll Past Yellow Jackets

Christian Parker Becomes 35th Purple Raider to Score 1,000 Career Points

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 5 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team beat Baldwin Wallace 102-69 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday night.

The Purple Raiders (18-2, 11-2 OAC) had four players score in double figures with junior Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double. Parker also scored his 1,000th career point in the win, becoming the 35th Purple Raider to surpass the mark. Freshman Dante Collier (Columbus / Licking Heights) scored a career-high 17 points, with freshman Corey Hudson (Columbus / Pickerington) and senior Braedon Poole (McDonald) adding 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Yellow Jackets (9-11, 5-8 OAC) were led by Anthony Mazzeo, who scored a team-high 21 points and Jackson Simmons who added 17 points.

Baldwin Wallace jumped out to an early 14-9 lead just four and a half minutes into the game before a three-pointer by senior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) sparked a massive 19-1 run over the next 5:40 of game time to give the Raiders a 13-point lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half. Mount Union would add to their lead over the final nine minutes of the first half, taking a 50-34 lead into the halftime break.

The Yellow Jackets would cut the lead down to 10 with 15:14 left to play in the game but that is the closest they would be able to get as Mount Union would go on to win 102-69.

The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Wilmington on Saturday, February 4 to take on the Quakers in an OAC matchup at 2 p.m.
