ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball team picked up two sweeps over MCVL foe Mount St. Joseph and non conference opponent Geneva Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (15-5, 3-1 MCVL) beat Mount St. Joseph (8-9, 1-3 MCVL) 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15 in the first match of the day.
Leading Mount Union was
Cameron Ternent with 13 kills while
Jack McClure picked up 10 kills in the match.
Will Heeney picked up another 37 assists while
Aaron Armour had nine digs and
Andrew Cross finished with four blocks.
Leading Mount St. Joseph was Ryan Bollhauer with eight kills, Ben Carmosino with 22 assists and Logan Essen with eight digs.
Set one Mount Union hit .387 while Mount St. Joseph hit .069. The Raiders had 15 kills with just three errors and Mount St. Joseph had 10 kills and eight errors.
Set two Mount Union hit better with .406 on 17 kills and just four errors while Mount St. Joseph hit better at .207 with 10 kills and just four errors.
The final set saw the same script as Mount Union hit .333 with 14 kills with four errors while Mount St. Joseph hit .100 with six kills and four errors.
In the second match of the day for the Raiders they swept Geneva (12-13, 8-0 AMCC) 25-10, 25-13 and 25-17.
Luke Trzeciak led Mount Union in the game with 17 kills while Heeney had 28 assists and Armour and McClure each ahd nine digs.
Leading Geneva on the offensive side was Jake Williams, Devin Goodgasell and Andrew Ubinger each having four kills. Curtis Thomas had seven assists while Joshua Sangrey had five digs.
Set one Mount Union had 13 kills with one errors for a hitting percentage of .572 while Geneva had four kills and eight errors for a -.174 percentage.
Set two again the Raiders hit high with .480 with 16 kills and four errors while Geneva had six kills and seven errors for -.037 percentage.
In the final set Mount Union had 18 kills with four errors for .424 while Geneva hit positive with six kills and two errors for .143.
Mount Union will have a big battle next Saturday in MCVL play as they travel to Baldwin Wallace who is perfect in league play with a 1 p.m. start time in Berea.
