ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team fell 17-11 at home Wednesday night against Wooster.
The Purple Raiders (3-4) were led on offense by
Logan Gebhart (McDonald, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) with four goals and two assists.
Eli Ciotti (Canonsburg, Pa. / Linsly) had three goals and
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) had two goals with each player picking up an assist.
On the defensive side
Anthony Andreski (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) led Mount union in caused turnovers with four while Andreski, Erwin and
Alec Blazer (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) each had six ground balls.
Logan Gunderman (Hamburg, N.Y. / Hamburg) made 15 saves while in goal.
Wooster (9-0) was led by Vinny DiLeo with four goals as Casey Steffen had nine ground balls and Paul Chandler made 13 saves on the night.
Wooster began the game with an 8-0 run that including a 7-0 first quarter and the first goal of the second quarter. Mount Union got its first goal in the second quarter with a goal from Gebhart.
Wooster responded with two more goals to go up 10-1 until a
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South) goal with 1:23 left in the half put the score 10-2. Wooster tacked on one more before the halftime buzzer sounded.
The Raiders came out firing in the second half with three straight goals to pull within six down 11-5 halfway through the third quarter with a goal each from Ewin, Ciotti and
Logan Addonizio (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western). Wooster responded with two more before a goal from Gebhart and a Wooster goal to finish the quarter leading 14-6.
Ciotti got the Raiders going in the fourth quarter scoring the first two goals to trail 14-8. Wooster found the back of the net three more times in the quarter to expand the lead to 17-8 but Mount Union would not back down as Gebhart scored two goals and Erwin scored one to end the game.
Mount Union opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday welcoming Ohio Northern to Alliance for a 1 p.m. start.
