ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's lacrosse team beat Marietta 18-3 on Wednesday evening at Kheres Stadium.
The Purple Raiders (6-1, 2-0 OAC) were led by senior Julia Bates (East Lyme Conn./East Lyme) and junior Katie Clark (Hudson/Walsh Jesuit) with four goals each.
Senior Sam Karr (Newark, Del./Newark Charter), junior Eden Kessler (Chagrin Falls/Kenston), and sophomore Mackenzie Koldstad (Victor, N.Y./Victor Senior) each scored two goals.
Senior Leah Shutts (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) and Maddie Mitchell (Hartville/Lake) lead the team in caused turnovers with four and three respectively.
Freshman Abby Reagan (Columbus/St. Francis De Sales) got the victory making five saves and allowing zero goals while fellow goalkeeper senior Shyanna White (Massillon/Massillon Jackson) made three saves and allowed three goals.
Marietta (6-3, 0-1 OAC) was led by Lindy Borbeck with two goals and Mackenzie Dyott with one goal.
The Purple Raiders opened the first quarter of play hot as they outscored Marietta 10-0. Four goals would come from Clark and a pair of goals would come from Kessler and seniors Bates, S. Karr., and Madi Karr (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) would score one a piece.
In the second quarter, the only goal would come from Kolstad at 6:55. The Purple Raiders would lead 11-0 at halftime.
Mount Union sophomore Emily Funk (Strongsville) would score at 13:00 to open the third quarter. Bates scored a pair of goals while senior Madeline McCrackin (Kings Mills/Kings) found the back of the net. Marietta's first goal of the game would come at 1:49 by Lindy Brobeck. Mount Union's lead stood firm at 15-1 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, freshman Ella Najed (Rocky River) scored her first goal of the game. Bates and Koldstad would score one goal each. Mackenzie Dyott would score her first goal of the game while Brobeck recorded her second goal. The Raiders would finish on top 18-3 as the final whistle blows.
Mount Union's next game is in Columbus on Saturday as they take on Capital in a battle of the top two teams in the conference at 1 p.m.
