ST. LOUIS, Missouri—The Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Fontbonne (Mo.) in straight sets, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21 on Friday night in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League action.
The Purple Raiders (17-5, 5-1 MCVL) keep pace in the MCVL with the top of the league as they and Wittenberg both won. Wittenberg leads the league at 6-1 while Mount Union sits second with a record of 5-1 with Trine and Baldwin Wallace tied at 4-1.
Mount Union was led by
Jack McClure and
Luke Trzeciak with 17 and 10 kills.
Will Heeney led the game in assists with 31 assists while
Aaron Armour led the game in digs with 11.
Fontbonne (12-10, 2-3 MCVL) was led by Joseph Huster with eight kills, Alex Gantt with 23 assists and Ryan Taylor with nine digs.
In set one Mount Union hit .500 percent with 15 kills with just two errors while Fontbonne had just six kills and five errors for .042 percent.
Mount Union kept the kills going in set two with 18 kills and eight errors with a .250 percent while Fontbonne had just seven kills and four errors for .086 percent.
The final set saw 12 Mount Union kills and seven errors hitting .161 percent while Fontbonne had 13 kills but eight errors for a .143 percent.
Mount Union will conclude its trip tomorrow at Crawfordsville, Ind. with a match against Wabash at 2 p.m.
