Baseball: Mount Splits with No. 4 Baldwin Wallace, Including Extra Inning Walk-Off HR by Kemer

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union baseball team split with No. 4 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace in a home Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader on Tuesday.

Mount Union (16-9, 4-4 OAC) won game one in dramatic fashion with a walk-off home run by senior Anthony Kemer (Cleveland, Ohio / Lakewood St. Edward) in the 10th inning in its 9-8 win, overcoming a 7-0 deficit.

Baldwin Wallace (20-5, 6-2 OAC) won game two, 10-2.

The Purple Raiders were down 7-3 after four innings in game one, before scoring one run in the fifth and four in the seventh to take an 8-7 lead; junior Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) had the go-ahead RBI-single. The Yellow Jackets took the lead with a run in the eighth which forced extra innings. Kemer, who made a great defensive play in the top of the ninth, connected on a one-out solo home run to right center field for the walk-off. Raider junior pitcher Chuck Hawley (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) earned his first win of the season after coming in for relief with 3.2 innings of work, only allowing one run off three hits.

Both of Mount Union's runs in game two came off homers, courtesy of seniors Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) and Eric Schilling (Stow, Ohio / Stow-Munroe Falls).

Mount will next host OAC foe Capital on Saturday, April 15 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
