ALLIANCE, Ohio– Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Trine in four sets (25-21, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-20) in the semifinals of the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League tournament.
The Purple Raiders (21-5) were led by
Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) with 17 kills and 10 digs.
Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) and
Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) also picked up a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs and 11 kills and 12 digs.
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) had a game-high 53 assists while
Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wisconsin / Catholic Memorial) had a game-high 16 digs.
Trine (14-13) was led by Ted Hofmesiter with 22 kills.
Set one only saw one tie and one lead change as Mount Union controlled the set with 14 kills and three errors while Trine had 13 kills but eight errors.
Set two saw nine ties and two lead changes as Mount Unino dropped the set having 14 kills and 12 errors while Trine had 11 kills and seven errors.
Mount Union bounced back in set three as there were nine ties and five lead changes with 14 kills and five errors while Trine had 14 kills and seven errors.
The final set of the day saw six ties and four lead changes as Mount Union had 18 kills and three errors while Trine had 13 kills and six errors.
Mount Union stays alive and advances to the MCVL tournament championship match tomorrow afternoon taking on a familiar foe in Baldwin Wallace as they defeated Wittenberg in four sets earlier in the day. The game will occur at 4 pm EST tomorrow at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance, Ohio.
