UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team took down John Carroll 16-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (10-3, 5-0 OAC) were led by
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) with five goals and three assists.
Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) got her 100
th career goal as she finished with three while
Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) had three goals and two assists.
Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) scored two goals while
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior),
Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) and
Emily Nannarone (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) each had a goal and an assist.
Kesler led in ground balls with five While Kolstad and
Megan Casciola (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) each caused three turnovers.
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Haborfields) made nine saves while allowing just seven goals.
John Carroll (6-7, 4-2 OAC) was led by Shannon Burdick and Kendall Gessner with three goals while Josephine Lawler made four saves.
Clark got the scoring going but three straight John Carroll goals put Mount Union in a 3-1 deficit. Mount Union got one more goal before the quarter was done with Kesler.
Clark got the scoring going again with two goals to take a 4-3 lead. John Carroll responded with a goal but the Raiders took the lead once again this time on a Kolstad goal. John Carroll tied it up but a goal from Nannarone with 1:54 in the quarter gave Mount Union a 6-5 lead going into the second half.
Mount Union came out firing scoring five straight to start the second half with Clark having two and Bates, S. Karr and Kesler each getting one. John Carroll got one to finish the quarter trailing 11-6.
S. Karr got the scoring started in the foruth quarter taking a 12-6 lead. John Carroll got its final goal with 7:54 remaining. Mount Union proceeded to score the final four as M. Karr and Kesler each had a goal while Bates scored her 100
th and 101
st career goals.
With the win Mount Union clinches a first round bye in the OAC Tournament and leads Capital by a game in the standings with two games to go.
Mount Union returns home to take on Otterbein on Saturday for Senior Day with a 1 p.m. start time.
