Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Survive Late Scare From Ohio Wesleyan

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union women's lacrosse team survived a late comeback from Ohio Wesleyan Monday afternoon winning 11-9 at Kehres Stadium.
 
The Purple Raiders (8-1, 3-0 OAC) was led by Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) who accumulated seven points with four goals and three assists.
 
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) and Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.) each scored two goals while Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) had one goal and three assists. Emily Nannarone (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) and Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) scored a goal each.
 
Bates led the charge in ground balls with four while Leah Shutts (Buffalo, N.Y. / Amherst Central) created five turnovers. Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Haborfields) was in goal making eight saves in the game.
 
Ohio Wesleyan (7-3, 0-0 NCAC) was led by Sophia Staples-Roy scoring three goals while Abby Markowitz made 14 saves and had a team-high four ground balls.
 
Ohio Wesleyan got on the board first just 1:21 into the game but a goal from Bates just 22 second later tied the game up. Mount Union found the back of the net four more times in the quarter as Clark had two and Kolstad and Kesler each had one goal.
 
Ohio Wesleyan got the first goal of the second quarter, but Mount Union responded with a goal from Kolstad and Nannarone to take a 7-2 lead. Ohio Wesleyan found the back of the net before the half as Mount Union led 7-3 going into the halftime break.
 
Bates got the scoring started in the third quarter for the Raiders but two quick goals from Ohio Wesleyan brought the score to 8-5. Clark found the back of the next just 18 seconds later but Ohio Wesleyan scored another before the end of the quarter as Mount Union led 9-6.
 
Ohio Wesleyan got another goal to start the fourth but a goal from Clark and Karr pushed the lead out to 11-7. Ohio Wesleyan would score two goals in the final two minutes but not get enough to threaten the Raiders.
 
Mount Union hits the road in its third game of four in a seven-day span heading to New Concord to take on Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum with a 7 p.m. start.
