ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team fell 16-15 to Washington and Jefferson on Saturday night.
The Purple Raiders (8-2, 3-0 OAC) was led by
Katie Clark who hit her 100th career goal in the game as she had five goals and four assists.
Emily Funk finished with three goals while
Mackenzie Kolstad and
Julia Bates had two goals each.
Emily Nannarone,
Sam Karr and Eden Kelser each had a goal.
Kolstad led the team in ground balls with five while her and
Tara Santoro each had three caused turnovers.
Washington and Jefferson (7-3, 3-0 PAC) was led by Sarah Labovitz with five goals.
A close game the whole way say W&J jump out to a 3-1 lead early on. Kolstad had a goal with 2:44 left in the first quarter to bring the score within one at the end of the quarter.
W&J pushed the lead out to 5-2. Two goals from clark and two from W&J would make it 7-4 but Mount Union rebounded with two Funk goals and a goal from Kesler would bring it to an 8-7 halftime deficit.
Clark tied the game to start the third quarter but two goals form W&J pushed the lead out to 10-8. A goal from Bates and then Clark and Funk tied the game up at 11 but a goal with 43 second left gave W&J a 12-11 lead into the final quarter.
Mount Union took its first lead on a goal from Clark and then Kolstad but W&J tied it back up at 13. A goal from Bates was followed quickly by a goal from W&J. Nannarone got a goal to give the Raiders their last lead as W&J finished with two goals as Mount Union had one last chance right before the buzzer but couldn't get it.
Mount Union returns to OAC play with a game at New Concord against Muskingum on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
