WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Mount Union's women's soccer team beat Waynesburg 3-1 in their season opener on Friday evening.
The Purple Raiders (1-0) struck first when freshman Paige Klingensmith (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) found the back of the net for her first career goal in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets (0-1) would come back to tie the game in the 11th minute when Julz Mohrbacher found the back of the net.
Sophomore Addyson Jones (Homeworth / West Branch) broke the tie in the 68th minute of the game to take a 2-1 lead and then junior Jillian Pidgeon (Homeworth / West Branch) added an insurance goal in the 77th minute as the Raiders would go on to win 3-1.
Junior goalkeeper Rylee Oldfield (Liberty Twp. / Lakota East) recorded three saves in the season opening victory for Mount Union.
The Raiders hit the road again next when they travel to Grove City, Pa. on Wednesday, September 6 to take on Grove City at 7:30 p.m.
