Raiders Sweep Day 2 of Mount Union Invitational; Bartell Named To All-Tournament Team

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's volleyball team used a strong hitting day from junior outside hitter Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) to sweep SUNY Brockport and Buffalo St. Saturday afternoon at the Mount Union Invitational.
 
In the first match of the day Mount Union (2-2) swept Buffalo St. (0-3) 25-18,25-19 and 26-24. Senior outside hitter Maddie Wentz (Akron / Hoban) led the Purple Raiders with nine kills in the match.  
 
Freshman Melissa Hansen (Hudson) and junior Casey Kildow (Bethesda / Union Local) had 20 and 17 assists. Kildow added five service aces while freshman Averi Haley (Orrville) finished with 15 digs.
 
Buffalo St. was led by Ella Wittman with 10 kills, Karlie Shaffer with 24 assists and Adi Vergara with 10 digs.
 
In the second match Mount Union swept Brockport (0-4) 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17. Bartell finished the match with 16 kills on 23 swings for a .696 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman middle hitter Ava Bolen (Wellsburg, W. Va. / Brooke) finished with a hitting percentage of .714 having five kills on seven attempts. Kildow finished with 22 assists while Hansen had 11 assists and six service aces. Averi and Bartell both had 12 digs to lead the team.
 
Mount Union will stay home to take on Case Western Reserve on Wednesday with a start time of 7 P.M.
