WILMINGTON, Ohio – The No. 15 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to Wilmington 81-76 on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (14-3, 7-3 OAC) had four players score in double figures with senior
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with 26-points. Senior
Collen Gurley (Akron / Copley) and sophomore
Corey Hudson (Columbus / Pickerington) added in 14 and 13 points respectively, with senior
Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) rounding out the Raiders in double digits with 11 points.
The Quakers (8-9, 4-6 OAC) were led by Rashid Chisholm who scored 26 points, Domenic Farley who added in 18 and Carson Miles who scored 13 points.
Mount Union jumped out to an early 9-3 lead just three minutes into the game and would continue to add to their lead over the next seven minutes of game time and was capped off by a 12-3 run to take a 26-13 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Wilmington would respond with a 9-2 run over the next 3:09 to cut the lead down to six with under seven minutes to play in the first half. The Raiders would go on to outscore the Quakers 15-11 over the final five and half minutes of the half to take a 43-33 lead into the halftime break.
Wilmington opened the second half with a massive 22-7 run over the first 7:27 of the second half to take a five-point 55-50 lead with 12:16 remaining in the game. The Raiders and Quakers would go back and forth over the next several minutes before Mount Union would go on an 8-2 run to close the gap to one with just under five minutes left to play. Wilmington would respond with a 12-6 run of their own to push the lead back out to seven with under a minute to play. The Raiders would be able to cut the lead down to five but wouldn't be able to get closer as the Quakers would go on to win 81-76.
The Raiders are on the road again as they head to Berea to take on Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, January 24 at 7 p.m.
