Women's Basketball: Raiders Fall to No. 23 Baldwin Wallace

ALLIANCE, Ohio— The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against No. 23 Nationally Ranked Baldwin Wallace 70-49 matchup Wednesday night.
 
The Purple Raiders (7-11, 4-7 OAC) were led by sophomore Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz/Harrison Central) with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
 
The Baldwin Wallace (BW) Yellow Jackets (15-3, 11-0 OAC) were led by Emily Irwin with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
 
FIRST QUARTER
A back and forth start saw a jumper made by Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz/Harrison Central) followed by a 3 pointer from Ali Hudik (Mentor/Lake Catholic). Then the Yellow Jackets went on a three-score run with their first points from Alyssa Miller. Both teams continued the back in forth battle in the first quarter. BW ended up tying the Raiders 13-13 at the end of the quarter with a score from Carolyne Wochele.

SECOND QUARTER
The Raiders started the quarter with a layup from Dunkle. The Yellow Jackets had a 4 -0 run breaking the tie and extending their lead 18-15. Then Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) of the Purple Raiders broke the run with a steal followed by a layup. The Raiders continued to rally in a back-and-forth battle, but BW continued to extend their lead 29-24 going into the end of the quarter.

THIRD QUARTER
The Raiders came out strong in the quarter with points from Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and Hudik. The Yellow Jackets answered back with 2 scores from Emily Irwin and Bella Vaillant adding to their lead 34-26. The Raiders continued to rally and put-up shots but were unable to close the gap with a 2-5 run. BW led at the end of the quarter 48-36.

FOURTH QUARTER
Baldwin Wallace started the quarter with a 4-3 run extending their lead further 54-39. Then BW went on a 5-0 run which was broken by Elizabeth Mason and Ali Hudik. In the last three minutes the Raiders were unable to closer in the loss.
 
The Raiders head away as they take on Ohio Northern in an OAC matchup on Saturday with a 2 PM tip-off.
