Women's Basketball: Raiders Drop Tough Match Up To Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell 72-43 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon against Ohio Northern.
 
The Purple Raiders (7-12, 4-8 OAC) were led by freshmen Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and Abby Muckleroy (Canfield). Mason finished a point and a rebound shy of a double-double with nine each and Muckleroy finished with eight points connecting on two three's.
 
Ohio Northern (12-6, 10-2 OAC) was led by Brynn Serbin with 22 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union got the first bucket of the game with a layup from freshman Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia Tuscarawas Central Catholic). Ohio Northern went on a quick 5-0 run but a three from junior Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) and a jumper from sophomore Addi Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) gave Mount Union the lead once again. Mount Union pushed the lead out to 13-8 with 2:11 remaining in the first quarter but Ohio Northern once again went on a 5-0 run to tie the game up.
 
SECOND QUARTER
A 16-3 run to start the second quarter gave Ohio Northern a 29-16 lead. After a layup from sophomore Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) Ohio Northern finished the second quarter on an 8-0 run.
 
THIRD QUARTER   
Ohio Northern began the quarter on an 8-0 run which was stopped by a layup from Dunkle. Mount Union went on a 7-2 run later on in the quarter with Mason scoring five of those points to close within 23. Mason then hit a layup with 40 seconds remaining in the third to finish the quarter down 54-29.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Nash got the first bucket of the quarter but was Ohio Northern extended its lead till the final 2:25 where Mount Union finished on an 11-0 run.
 
Mount Union now heads to New Concord to take on Muskingum on Wednesday, January 31st with a 7 PM tipoff.
