Women's Volleyball: Fish Fry; Raiders Win in Four Over Muskingum

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's volleyball team defeated Muskingum, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-19, in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening.
 
The Purple Raiders (15-7, 3-1 OAC) was led by senior Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) with 14 kills and four blocks. Senior Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Jospeh Academy) finished with 10 kills and 16 digs.
 
Sophomore Ava Bolen (Wellsburg, W. Va. / Brooke) finished with eight kills, four block and four aces while senior Casey Kildow (Bethesda / Union Local) and sophomore Melissa Hansen (Hudson) finished with 21 assists each.
 
Sophomore Averi Haley (Orrville) had a match-high 20 digs with senior Katleyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) having 10 digs. Freshman Cami Welty (Eastlake / Eastlake North) finished with a match-high five blocks.
 
Muskingum (8-9, 1-3 OAC) was led by Mackenzie Krous with 13 kills, Addison Gringrich and Alexis Bradley with 18 assists and Katharine Clayton with 20 digs.
 
SET ONE
Mount Union jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead as they caused three Muskingum errors. Muskingum tied the game at 4 but a 6-1 run with two kills from Bartell pushed the Raider lead out to 10-5. Mount Union then used a 5-1 run with a kill from Bartell, Bolen and Meyer each to lead 15-7. Mount Union cruised from there in the set taking it 25-15 as Muskingum got no momentum to close.
 
SET TWO
Mount Union got out to a strong start leading 6-3 with two kills form Meyer. Muskingum responded and tied the game up at eight but once again Mount Union got two kills from Bolen and an ace from Kildow to take a 13-9 lead. Muskingum fought back once again to tie the set at 16 and then took the lead on a 6-1 run leading 20-17. A 6-2 run from Mount Union as Meyer had two kills gave the Raiders a 23-22 lead but Muskingum finished off the set on a 3-0 run taking the set 25-23.
 
SET THREE
Muskingum got off to a 2-1 lead, but Mount Union got a kill from Meyer and sophomore Sadie Thomas (Cambridge Springs, Pa. / Maplewood) along with an ace from Bolen to go up 6-2. Muskingum and Mount Union traded runs of 2-0 twice with Mount Union leading 8-6. A 10-2 run which saw five errors from Muskingum gave Mount Union an 18-8 lead. From there Mount Union kept the lead winning the set 25-12.
 
SET FOUR
Mount Union got two aces from Bolen along with a kill from her and Bartell getting Mount Union out to an 8-2 lead however Muskingum got a run of 6-0 to take the lead at 10-9. The lead was traded five more times in the match as Mount Union took the lead for good at 18-17 as they went on an 8-2 run to end the match.
 
Mount Union will now travel to Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday to take on Heidelberg at 1 PM.
