ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Marietta 3-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (13-4-1, 7-1 OAC) struck first when freshman
Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) scored off an assist from junior
Reese Utter (Dover) in the 31
st minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 42
nd minute when junior
Luka Dedic (Eastlake / North) found the back of the net off an assist from junior
Nyiles Spann (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) to stretch the lead to two goals.
The Pioneers (5-10-2, 2-5-1 OAC) would answer with a goal of their own in the 73
rd minute when Gavin Heighberger scored to cut the lead to 2-1. However, in the 78
th minute fifth-year
Jordan Akins (Cuyahoga Falls) found the back of the net off an assist from fellow fifth-year
Emilio Spetic (Chardon / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) to extend the lead back to two goals.
Marietta wouldn't have an answer over the final minutes as Mount Union would go on to win 3-1.
The Raiders hit the road next when they travel to Columbus to take on Capital on Saturday, November 2 at 7 p.m. in their regular season finale.
