Men's Soccer: Raiders Clinch OAC Regular Season Championship in Win Over Capital

Raiders Tie Single Season Record for OAC Wins

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Capital 4-3 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday evening.

The Purple Raiders (14-4-1, 8-1 OAC) struck first when freshman Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) found the back of the net in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would add to that lead in the 11th minute when fifth-year Emilio Spetic (Chardon / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) found fifth-year Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) to extend the lead to two goals.

The Comets (6-8-4, 5-3-1 OAC) would cut into the lead in the 17th minute, scoring off the foot of Nico Voight cutting the lead to a goal. However, the Raiders would push the lead back to two goals in the 20th minute when Hancock netted his second goal of the night.

Capital would once again answer with a pair of goals in the 49th and 51st minute when Jacob Deever found the back of the net and then he scored on a penalty kick to tie the game at three goals apiece. Then, in the 60th minute Spratt would score his second goal of the night off an assist from junior Reese Utter (Dover) to reclaim a 4-3 lead.

The Comets wouldn't be able to answer over the final thirty minutes of game time as the Raiders would go on to win 4-3.

The win clinched the OAC Regular Season Championship for Mount Union and the one-seed in next weeks OAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Raiders finished 8-1 in OAC play, tying the single season record for OAC wins in program history. They will host the lowest remaining seed in the tournament next Thursday, November 7
at 7 p.m. in Kehres Stadium.
