Men's Soccer: Raiders Shutout Capital to Advance to OAC Title Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Capital 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal on Thursday evening.

The Purple Raiders (15-4-1, 8-1 OAC) struck first when they broke the scoreless draw in the 57th minute when fifth-year Emilio Spetic (Chardon / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) found fellow fifth-year Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) to take a 1-0 lead. Mount Union would then add an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when junior Zander Plizga (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) found fifth-year Jordan Akins (Cuyahoga Falls) to extend the lead to two goals.

The Comets (7-9-4, 5-3-1 OAC) wouldn't be able to answer over the final 18 minutes of game time as the Raiders would go on to win 2-0.

Senior goalkeeper Lucas Fields (West Chester / Lakota East) recorded three saves en route to his sixth shutout of the season.

With the win the Raiders advance to Saturday's OAC Tournament Championship game where they will host Otterbein at 7 p.m. in Kehres Stadium.
