ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team defeated Manchester (Ind.) 75-50 to win the Teammates for Life Tournament on Sunday afternoon in the McPhearson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (2-0) were led by tournament MVP freshman
Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) with 12 points and seven rebounds while senior
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) was named to the All-Tournament team scoring 14 points.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) also scored double digits for Mount Union with 10 points.
Manchester (1-1) was led by All-Tournament selection Abigail Rosenkrans with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kinsey Atkins and Kayla Gibbs also reached double digits with 13 and 11.
Mount Union and Manchester battled to a 24-22 first quarter Lead for Mount Union as neither team got a lead larger than three which was Mount Union twice with the last time being with 54 seconds left in the quarter.
The second quarter saw a defensive battle as both teams scored just seven points and Mount Union went into the halftime with a 31-29 lead.
Mount Union got a little bit of distance in the third outscoring Manchester 20-16 taking a 51-45 lead into the final quarter.
The Raiders used their defense along with the offense to outscore Manchester 24-5 in the final quarter taking the 75-50 victory.
Mount Union will be off till Friday, November 22 where they will take on Kenyon at the Marietta College Classic at 5 PM.
