Women's Basketball: Raiders Grab Senior Day Victory

ALLAINCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team took down Heidelberg 68-58 for a Senior Day victory on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (9-14, 6-10 OAC) honored its lone senior in Lily Sweeney () before the game.
 
Mount Union was led by another dominate performance by freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 22 points and eight rebounds.
 
Junior Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) finished with 17 points while sophomore Mckayla Dunkle finished with nine rebounds and six assists.
 
Heidelberg (4-19, 1-15 OAC) was led by Emma Keto with 15 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead with Nash scoring on five of the points. Heidelberg stormed back on a 13-4 run to take a 15-11 lead. Mount Union responded tying the game up at 16 and 18 before the end of the quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union got the first bucket with a three from Sweeney but two buckets from Heidelberg gave them a point lead. Both teams traded buckets back and forth until an 8-0 run to end the quarter gave Mount Union a 35-26 lead.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union extended its lead out to 41-28 with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter. Heidelberg responded with a 7-0 run to get within six with 3:05 left. Mount Union however finished the quarter out on a 6-2 run to take a 47-37 lead into the final quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Heidelberg got within six three times in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. Mount Union got five quick points to push the lead back out to 11 with 6:01 remaining. Heidelberg responded getting within four with a three pointer with 1:41 remaining. Six points from Mason and two from Nash however closed out the senior day victory.
 
The win will keep the Raiders in the race for the sixth seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament. Mount Union will return to the court on Wednesday taking on Marietta at home at 7 PM.
