HIRAM, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball team was swept by Hiram, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-16 Tuesday night.
The Purple Raiders (4-4) were led by junior
Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy) and senior
Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) with 14 kills and 12 kills respectively.
Junior
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with 25 assists while freshman
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) finished with 15 digs.
Hiram (8-4) was led by Kyle Martini with 16 kills, Matthew Albano with 32 assists and nine digs.
SET ONE
Hiram hit a blistering .500-hitting percentage as they had 14 kills with just two errors on 24 attempts. Mount Union also hit well in the set with 10 kills and four errors on 23 attempts which was good for a hitting percentage of .261.
SET TWO
This set saw both teams settle in the hitting as both teams had 11 kills, but Mount Union had seven hitting errors while Hiram had six errors. Hiram had four service errors while Mount Union had just three, but Hiram had two more service aces, three to one, which was the difference in the set.
SET THREE
The final set saw both teams had four service errors, but Hiram finished with 14 kills while Mount Union had 11 kills. Hiram finished with a hitting percentage of .345 while Mount Union was at .241 to finish the set off.
The Raiders head to Buffalo, N.Y. next Tuesday with a match against Buffalo St. at 6 pm and then will head to Chicago that weekend for three matches.
