Men's Volleyball: Armour and Koszelak's Career Nights Lead Raiders to Four Set Victory

BUFFALO, New York—The Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Buffalo State in four sets, 29-31, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17, Tuesday night in non-conference play.
 
The Purple Raiders (5-4) were led by junior Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) with a career night finishing with 18 kills and senior Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) with 16 kills.
 
Junior Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with 34 assists while freshman Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) had a career-high 19 digs.
 
Buffalo State (6-7) was led by Chris Laboy with 12 kills, Jackson Stang with 25 assists and Gavin Wilczewski with nine digs.
 
SET ONE
Buffalo State got off to a 7-3 lead early in the set, but Mount Union responded with its own run of 6-2 to tie the set at nine all. With the set all tied at 15 Mount Union went on a 9-2 run taking a lead of 24-17. Buffalo State responded with an 8-0 run to take a 25-24 lead. Both teams battled the rest of the marathon set as Mount Union dropped the set 31-29.
 
SET TWO
Buffalo State started the set leading 2-0 but Mount Union responded with the next four points. Buffalo State tied the game up at seven, but Mount Union proceeded to go on a 6-3 run to lead 13-10 as four different Raiders had a kill in the run. Mount Union used another run this time of 9-3 to take a 22-14 lead. Mount Union closed the set out on a 3-1 run after a Buffalo State point to win the set 25-16.
 
SET THREE
Mount Union got the first point of the set, but Buffalo State responded with a 3-0 run to lead 3-1. Mount Union however found its grove with a 14-3 run as Aaron Armour had four kills to take a 15-6 lead. Both teams would exchange points throughout the set, but Mount Union prevailed with a set win of 25-15.
 
SET FOUR
Buffalo State took an early 4-3 lead in the set but an 8-3 run from the Raiders pushed the lead out to 11-7. Buffalo State closed to within two at 12-10 but Mount Union finished the set on a 13-7 run to take the victory.
 
Mount Union will now head west to Chicago, Ill. with matchups against Aurora (Ill.) on Friday and on Saturday taking on Illinois Institute of Technology and No. 10-nationally ranked North Central (Ill.).
