WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania—Mount Union women's lacrosse team got an overtime winner from Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) to take a 13-12 win over Washington and Jefferson Saturday afternoon.

In a battle of teams that both made the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament last year it played out just like that as both went back and forth trading leads.

The Purple Raiders (1-0) were led by Emily Funk (Strongsville) with three goals and an assist and Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with three goals.

Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) finished with two goals and two assists for Mount Union. Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) along with Clark each scored two goals and had an assist while Britta Treu (Auburn Township / Kenston) finished with a goal and an assist.

Kesler led the team in groundballs with six and caused turnovers with three.

Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Haborfields) picked up the victory in goal playing 31:19 making nine saves while allowing just three goals.

Washington and Jefferson (0-1) was led by Caleigh Bogats with four goals and one assist.

A back and forth first quarter saw Mount Union get out to a 4-2 lead but quickly Washington and Jefferson took the lead before the end of the quarter at 5-4.

The second quarter began with a Washington and Jefferson goal, but Mount Union responded with three goals to take a 7-6 lead. Washington and Jefferson responded once again with three goals and took a 9-8 lead into halftime.

The third quarter Mount Union outscored Washington and Jefferson 3-1 to take a 11-10 lead into the final quarter. Both teams battled as Mount Union held a 12-11 lead from the 10:16 mark to 3:22 where Washington and Jefferson scored a goal to tie the game. Both teams stayed silent in the scoring column the rest of the fourth. Clark's goal came off of a Kelser pass to finish the game off in overtime.
