Women's Lacrosse: Clark Nets School Record in Win Over Chatham

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) tied the Mount Union women's lacrosse assist record for assists in a game with eight in a 20-9 win over Chatham Wednesday night.
 
Clark had half of her assists to the Purple Raiders (2-0) leading scorer in Ella Nejad (Rocky River) as she finished with six total goals and two assists along with 12 draw controls.
 
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N. Y. / Victor Senior) had five goals for Mount Union as Emily Funk (Strongsville) had three goals on three shots.
 
Clark along with Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) finished with two goals while Tara Santoro (Canfield) and Britta Treu (Auburn Township / Kenston) each had a goal.
 
Picking up the victory in goal for Mount Union was Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) with eight saves.
 
Leading Chatham (1-1) was Felicia Hutter with four goals while Sam Beall-Dennell had eight draw controls.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union controlled the game from the start as Kolstad scored two and Kesler had a goal. A goal from Chatham was the only one of the first quarter as Mount Union had four more goals as Nejad had two with Kolstad and Santoro each having a goal.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Chatham got the scoring going in the second quarter but once again Mount Union got a goal from Clark and Nejad to take a 9-2 lead. Both teams scored two goals over the final 3:06 as Funk scored the Raiders two goals.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Chatham tried to start a comeback with two goals in the first four minutes of the half trailing 11-6 but a Clark goal pushed the lead back out to six. A goal from both teams as Nejad scored for Mount Union puts the score at 13-7 after the third.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
A Nejad goal started the fourth but Chatham found an answer just a minute later. Mount Union put the game away with a 6-0 run as five different Raiders scored with two goals from Kolstad and a goal each with Treu, Nejad, Funk and Kesler each got a goal. Chatham got a goal with 24 second left but was not enough to get a comeback going.
 
Mount Union now heads on Spring break with a trip to the West Coast. The Raiders will take on George Fox on Tuesday, March 5th and Lewis & Clark on Friday, March 8th.
