Women's Lacrosse: Kesler's Career Night Leads Raiders to Win Over George Fox

NEWBERG, Oregon—In a matchup of teams that made the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament last year Mount Union's women's lacrosse took down the hosts in George Fox 16-14 Tuesday night.

The west coast trip for Mount Union begins with a win that hands George Fox just their second regular season loss in the last four years.

The Purple Raiders (3-0) were led by Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) with a career-high seven goals while Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) finishes with four goals. Brita Treu (Auburn Township / Kenston) and Ella Nejad (Rocky River) each finish with two goals while Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) added one as well.

Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) picked up the victory in goal making 13 saves for the Raiders.

George Fox (0-1) was led by Carleigh DeLapp and Ava Bluhm with five goals each.

Emma Webb was in goal for George Fox making 10 saves.

FIRST QUARTER
George Fox jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead but a goal from Kesler made the game 2-1 just four minutes into play. A goal from George Fox just 15 seconds later put the home team up 3-1. Mount Union tied the game up at three with a goal from Treu and Kesler with just under five minutes remaining. George Fox found the back of the net once again in the first quarter, but a goal form Kolstad less than a minute later tied the game up after the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union came firing out in the second quarter scoring four goals over the first 4:30 with a goal each from Nejad, Kesler, Kolstad and Treu while George Fox had one goal as Mount Union led 8-5. George Fox did shrink the goal difference as they got two goals over the final five minutes as Mount Union led 8-7 at the halftime break.

THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union once again came out firing with two goals in the first 1:20 this time as Kolstad scored followed by Kesler. A goal just three second later from George Fox put the score at 10-8 as neither team scored another goal until a Clark goal with 2:04 remaining in the quarter gave Mount Union an 11-8 lead into the final quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER
Mount Union got its largest lead of the game as Kolstad and Kesler each got goals to push Mount Union out to a 13-8 lead. George Fox was not done yet with three goals in less than two minutes to get within two at 13-11. Mount Union responded again with two goals from Kesler and a goal from Nejad to get back to a five-goal lead at 16-11 with 3:09 remaining. George Fox would scare the Raiders with three goals in 33 seconds to trail by two but a draw control win from the Raiders ended any comeback with a minute left.

Mount Union will remain in Oregon for their spring break trip taking on Lewis and Clark on Friday in Portland, Ore. at 6:30 PST/ 9:30 EST before returning to Ohio.
