HUNTINGDON, Pennsylvania—The Mount Union men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to nationally ranked teams in No. 11 Carthage and No. 2 Stevens Saturday afternoon at the FrogJump Invitational.
In the first match of the day Mount Union (2-3) fell in a five-set thriller (22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 28-26, 6-15) to Carthage (4-4).
The Purple Raiders were led by the duo of senior
Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) and junior
Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy) with 15 kills each.
Junior
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with 39 assists and freshman
Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) and Nussdorfer finished with nine digs each.
Carthage was led by Grant Veldman with 16 kills, Gene McNulty with 30 assists and Mitch Geiger with 15 assists.
In the second match of the day Mount Union fell in a heartbreak way as they dropped the first two sets by just two points to Stevens (9-1) as they lost 25-27, 24-26 and 13-25.
McClure led Mount Union with 17 kills in the match as sophomore
Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) finished with four blocks.
Heeney finished with 31 assists while Koszelak finished with nine digs and junior
Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) finished with eight.
Alex Olcott finished with 12 kills for Stevens while Sebastian Huyke had 13 assists and Carver Weirick had seven digs.
Mount Union heads to Greenville, Pa. to take on Thiel on Wednesday with a start time at 7 pm.
