AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Mount Union baseball team opened its Florida trip on Friday with a 12-7 loss to Alma.
The Purple Raiders (4-2) cut Alma's lead with a run in the third inning (2-1), however the Scots (7-3) scored four runs in the bottom half to take a 6-1 lead after three.
Mount mustered four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a 2-run double by senior
Logan Bell (Alliance, Ohio / Alliance), to cut the lead to 8-6. Alma, however, responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 11-6 lead which proved too large of a deficit to overcome.
Three Raiders registered two RBIs – Bell, senior
Andrew Witte (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), and junior
Chris Viamonte (Naples, Fla. / Coral Gables). Bell also had a game-high three runs scored.
Sophomore pitcher
Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls) (2-1) went 2.0 innings, giving up six runs (five earned) off five hits, striking out one and walking four.
Mount Union is back on the diamond tomorrow under the lights against Anna Maria at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park #5 in Auburndale, FL.
