Men's Volleyball: Raiders Start MCVL Play With Victory

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball started Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play with a four-set victory, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-21, over Olivet Friday night.
 
The Purple Raiders (7-7, 1-0 MCVL) was led by a career-high 27 kills from Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) while having a .333 hitting percentage.
 
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) led Mount Union in assists with 29 while Max Kaiser () finished with 12 assists. Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) finished with a team-high 13 kills while Heeney had 10.
 
Olivet (4-16, 0-1 MCVL) was led by Quinn Dickerson with 15 kills, Kai Hartman with 35 assists and Deontay Thomas with 14 digs.
 
Mount Union came out in the first set on five with 15 kills and just two errors while just having 24 attempts for a hitting percentage of .542. Olivet finished the set with just six kills on 31 attempts with seven errors for a hitting percentage of -.032.
 
The second set roles reversed as Olivet took the set with 14 kills and six errors for a hitting percentage of .267 while Mount Union had just 12 kills and nine errors for an .111 hitting percentage.
 
Mount Union responded in the third set with 11 kills and four errors with a .292 hitting percentage while Olivet went back negative with seven kills and nine errors for a hitting percentage of -.071.
 
The final set of the night both teams battled as Mount Union had 14 kills to Olivet's 11. Olivet had one less hitting error with it being six to seven, but the hitting percentage went the way of Mount Union at .194 to Olivet's .143.
 
Mount Union returns to play tomorrow at home with a 1 PM start against Adrian.
