Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Use Wild Fourth Quarter to Comeback in Win Over Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team used a 9-1 scoring comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat Oberlin 14-11 in a matchup on Saturday afternoon.
 
Mount Union is off to its best start since 2018 when the team started the season with a 17 game winning streak.
 
The Purple Raiders (5-0) were led by senior Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) and junior Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N. Y. / Victor Senior) with five goals respectively while Senior Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) and sophomore Ella Nejad (Rocky River) had two goals each.
 
Clark led the Raiders in assists with three and Nejad led in groundballs with four and draw controls with seven.

Picking up the victory in goal for Mount Union was Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) making 13 saves.
 
Leading Oberlin (4-4) was Abbie Patchen with 5 goals and Megan Hiller with 4 groundballs.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union was able to come out strong getting the first goal of the game from Clark, but Oberlin was quick to respond going on a 3-0 scoring run. Both teams continued to, but Oberlin kept their 3-1 lead ending the quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Oberlin was quick to keep their lead getting the first goal in the quarter and extend their lead, the Raiders answered quickly with a goal from Kolstad to keep the Raiders in it. Oberlin ended the quarter in a 2-0 scoring run, keeping their lead 6-2 going into halftime. Lindkvist kept the Raiders in the game making eight of her 13 saves in the first half. 
 
THIRD QUARTER
Oberlin kept their energy going into the second half getting the first goal of the quarter again. However, Clark was able to find Kolstad who was able to put the Purple Raiders back on the board. Using this energy the Purple Raiders were able to get another goal this time Clark found Nejad for the point, making the score 7-4. Oberlin battled back on a 3-1 scoring run keeping their lead going into the final quarter 10-5.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Mount Union used the final quarter to get a comeback, going on a 6-0 scoring run to take their first lead of the game 11-10. Oberlin was able to respond eventually and tied the game 11-11. Mount Union was determined to stay in the game, finishing on a 3-0 scoring run, making the final score 14-11. Mount Union used an 8-3 advantage on the draw circle in the final quarter as well. 
 
Mount Union will travel to Gambier, Ohio to take on Kenyon, who is receiving votes in the most recent IWLCA top 25 poll, on Tuesday, March 19th at 4 p.m.
