Men's Volleyball: Raiders Drop Four Set Thriller

ANGOLA, Indiana—The Mount Union men's volleyball team fell in a close four set match, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25 and 27-29, to Trine Friday night in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League play.
 
The Purple Raiders (9-9, 3-2 MCVL) was led by Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) with 22 kills while Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy) finished with 11 kills. Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) and Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) each and 10 kills as well.
 
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished the day with 53 assists while Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) finished with a game-high 23 digs while Armour had 14 and McClure finished with 10.
 
Trine (14-4, 4-0 MCVL) was led by Ted Hofmesister with 27 kills, Nick Woolley with 56 assists and Hunter Haas with 15 digs.
 
Mount Union finished the first set with 11 kills while making six errors for a hitting percentage of .139 while Trine had 13 kills with six errors for a hitting percentage of .189.
 
Set two Mount Union found its hitting grove with 15 kills and just three errors for a hitting percentage of .300 while Trine finished with 17 kills and six errors for a .262 hitting percentage.
 
Mount Union had the same number of kills and errors as the last set but had a better hitting percentage with .333 this time while Trine had 17 kills again with just three errors for a .359 hitting percentage.
 
Mount Union had 21 kills in the final set with six errors for a hitting percentage of .333 while Trine had 17 kills and four errors for a hitting percentage of .310.
 
Mount Union will now head to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on Calvin in MCVL play Saturday at 1 PM.
