Men's Volleyball: Raiders Bounce Back With MCVL Sweep of Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan—The Mount Union men's volleyball team bounced back with a sweep of Calvin, 25-14, 25-21 and 25-18, in Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League action Saturday afternoon.  
 
The Purple Raiders (10-9, 4-2 MCVL) was led by Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) with 17 kills and Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy) with 10 kills.
 
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) led Mount Union in assists with 39 while Peyton Koszelak (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) had a game high 17 digs.
 
Calvin (4-17, 1-4 MCVL) was led by Gabriel Laughlin with eight kills, Camerson Dogger with 22 assists and Arie Padmos with eight digs.
 
FIRST SET
Mount Union got off to an 8-2 start in the first set as McClure had four kills in that run. Both teams went on little runs until 12-8 as Mount Union proceeded to go on a 5-0 run to take a 17-8 lead. Calvin got to 17-11 but another 5-0 run from the Raiders put the set away as Mount Union led 22-11 and won the set 25-14.
 
SET TWO
Calvin got off to a slim lead of 3-2 but Mount Union went on a 7-2 run thanks to four errors from Calvin to take a 9-5 lead. The rest of the set saw neither team go on a scoring run larger than 2-0 as Mount Union took the set 25-21.
 
SET THREE
The first 10 points saw the teams exchange runs of 2-0 as Mount Union took a 6-4 lead. Mount Union led 11-10 until a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 15-10. Calvin the rest of the way could not get within six as Mount Union took the set 25-18.
 
Mount Union will now return home to take on Wabash on Friday at 7 PM.
