Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Fall in OAC Opener

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team fell 16-11 in its opener of Ohio Athletic Conference play against Capital on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (5-2, 0-1 OAC) was led by Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) with three goals and four assists and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) with four goals.
 
Emily Funk (Strongsville) scored two goals while Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) and Tara Santoro (Canfield) each scored a goal.
 
Delaney Brown () led the defense in caused turnovers with four while Santoro led in ground balls with four. Abby Lindkvist () and Abby Regan () split time in the cage for the Raiders as Lindkvist made seven saves and Regan made two.
 
Capital (6-3, 1-0 OAC) was led by Grace Osborn with eight goals while their goalie Emily Serafinchon made 13 saves.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Capital jumped out to an early lead with two goals within the first 1:29 of the game. Mount Union responded with a goal from Kolstad, but Capital fired back with a goal of its own to lead 3-1. Mount Union got a goal from Clark and then Kelser within 24 seconds of each other to tie the game up at 3 with 10:36 left in the quarter. Both team's defenses controlled the rest of the quarter not allowing another goal.
 
SECOND QUARTER
The offense for Mount Union got going quickly in the second with a goal from Clark just 1:12 into the quarter to take its first lead of the game. Capital responded with two goals just 15 seconds apart to regain the lead. Funk scored her first goal of the game tying the game up for Mount Union with 6:55. Capital however finished the quarter on a 3-1 to take an 8-6 lead into the halftime break.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Capital began the third quarter with a goal just 1:20 into the quarter. Capital then proceeded to score four straight to take a 13-6. Funk scored to get the score to 13-7 but once against Capital went on a 2-0 run to lead 15-7. Kesler scored the final goal of the third quarter with 1:13 remaining to get within seven.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Capital scored the first goal out of the quarter break to extend their lead to 16-8. Mount Union scored the final three goals of the game with one each to Santoro, Clark and Kesler but was not enough in their come back bid.
 
Mount Union heads to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison in its last nonconference match up on Wednesday with a 7 PM start.
