ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse teams took down Heidelberg 18-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (5-5, 1-1 OAC) was led by a freshman duo of
Obrigh Tallchief (Angola, N.Y. / LakeShore) and
Sly Sundown (Akron, N.Y. / Akron). Tallchief scored three goals to go along with three assists while Sundown had three goals and one assist.
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior),
Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) and
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South) each had two goals while
Noah Grigson (Portsmouth, R.I. / Bishp Stang),
Alec Feigel (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills),
Robert Belknap (Concord / Gilmour Academy) and
Aiden Mays (St. Vincent St. Mary / Akron) each had a goal.
Logan North (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) led Mount Union on the faceoff winning 20 of 24 attempts with eight ground balls in the game as well and
Logan Gundermann (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) was in goal for 45 minutes making four saves.
Heidelberg (4-6, 1-1 OAC) was led by Tyler Alexander with two goals and in goal was Wilson Runnette with 16 saves.
FIRST QUARTER
A slow first quarter saw Tallchief get a goal at the 9:07 mark and Zusman score at the 2:35 mark as Mount Union took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
The Raiders got going in the second quarter with a goal from Li just 2:07 into the quarter and just 1:23 later a goal from Sundown and he doubled back with another goal just six second later to take a 5-0 lead. Mount Union got five more goals in the quarter as Tallchief had two and Logsdon, Sundown and Feigel each got a goal to take a 10-0 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
Heidelberg got the first goal of the third quarter and then Mount Union scored the next four goals as Zusman, Grigson, Logsdon and Li each scored. Heidelberg scored another goal with 3:01 left in the quarter but Mount Union responded with a goal from Erwin to end the quarter taking a 15-2 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
Mount Union outscored Heidleberg 3-1 in the final quarter as Belknap, Erwin and Mays each had a goal for Mount Union.
The Raiders now head to Marietta on Wednesday, April 3
rd for an OAC game against Marietta at 7 PM.
