Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Fall In OT Versus Marietta

NEW CONCORD, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team fell in overtime 10-9 against Marietta Wednesday night in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
 
The game was moved from Marietta to Muskingum due to flooding problems in Marietta because of the storms.
 
The Purple Raiders (5-6, 1-2 OAC) were led by Grant Dunmire (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) and Sly Sundown (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) with two goals each.
 
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior), Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere), Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South), Cole Niemann (Idaho Falls, Id. / Idaho Falls) and Axel Magarrell (Portland, Ore. / Tualatin) each scored one goal for Mount Union
 
Stephen Moschetta (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Trinity) made nine saves in goal while Dane Matuscin (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) led Mount Union with six ground balls.
 
Marietta (5-5, 2-1 OAC) was led by Josh Walters with four goals while they split time for their two goalies as they made a combined 12 saves.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead halfway through the first quarter as Dunmire and Sundown had a goal. Marietta got a goal but Dunmire responded with a goal just 50 seconds later to take a 3-1 lead into the quarter break.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Marietta came out firing in the second quarter taking a 4-3 thanks to a 3-0 run in the first seven minuets of the quarter. Mount Union pushed the lead back out to 6-4 with a 3-0 as Sundown, Zusman and Magarrell each had a goal. Marietta and Mount Union each got another goal throughout the quarter as Erwin scored for the Raiders taking a 7-5 lead into halftime.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union got its largest lead of 8-5 with a Neimann goal just five minutes into the quarter. Marietta scored the only other two goals in the quarter as Mount Union led 8-7.
 
FOURTH QUARTER/OVERTIME
Marietta got the first two goals of the quarter in the first 3:35 of the quarter taking a 9-8 lead. Li got a goal for Mount Union with 8:24 left in the quarter to tie the game up. Neither team got another goal in the fourth quarter as they would head into overtime. Marietta would however get the golden goal in overtime taking the 10-9 win.
 
Mount Union will now return home to take on Otterbein on Saturday at 1 PM for an OAC match up.
