ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball team clinched a spot into the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League Tournament with a four-set victory, 25-16, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-22, over Fontbonne (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon.
Mount Union has clinched its fourth straight trip to the tournament which will be held in two weekends at a site to be determined still.
The Purple Raiders (12-9, 6-2 MCVL) were led by
Jacob Nussdorfer (Lewis Center / Olentangy) with 16 kills on the day with a hitting percentage of .414.
Jack McClure (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) and
Michael Bowler (Broadview Heights / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also had double digit kills with 12 and 10 respectively as Bowler had a red-hot hitting percentage of .667.
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished the game with 40 assists while also leading the team in digs with 10.
Fontbonne (5-18, 2-5 MCVL) was led by Cameron Graves with 10 kills, Tengis Kelley with 30 assists and three players tied at six digs.
Mount Union kept its hot hitting going today with 53 kills just 15 errors on 110 attempts for a hitting percentage of .345. Fontbonne was effective in its hitting with 56 kills but had 27 errors on 133 attempts for a hitting percentage of .218.
Both teams had service woes in the match today as Mount Union had 10 service errors while Fontbonne had 12. Mount Union finsihed the match with six blocks while Fontbonne just had four.
Mount Union now will welcome Baldwin Wallace to Alliance on Saturday with a 1 PM start in a rematch of last years MCVL Tournament Championships to end the regular season and it also being senior day for Mount Union.
