AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Mount Union baseball team won, 5-4, over St. John Fisher for its second-straight win during its Florida trip on Monday.
Mount Union (6-2) led 3-0 after three innings. St. John Fisher (2-3) scored two runs in the fifth to make the game 5-4, however, the Purple Raiders held off the Cardinals for the rest of the game thanks to junior pitcher
Chris Phillips (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) (1-0). Phillips came in with the bases loaded and only one out in the fifth and forced two outs in the next at bat and pitched a no-hitter for the rest of the game, to go along with three strikeouts.
Seniors
Andrew Witte (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) and
Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) both had three hits, while Lehman, who started the game on the mound, had three RBIs. Freshman
Luke Ickes (Green, Ohio / Green) added a pair of RBIs.
Mount continues its Florida trip Wednesday, March 6 vs Immaculata at the historic Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, FL with a 10:30 a.m. start time.
