SANFORD, Fla. – The Mount Union baseball team lost, 15-5, in seven innings to Immaculata University at the historic Sanford Memorial Stadium during its Florida trip on Wednesday.
Immaculata's offense was fueled by a total of six home runs in the mercy rule win. Junior
Chris Viamonte (Naples, Fla. / Coral Gables) led the Mount Union offense with a pair of doubles, while senior
Andrew Witte (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), graduate
Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic), and senior
Joey Procop (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) each had an RBI (Procop's came off a double).
Sophomore
Jack Faflik (Massillon, Ohio / Massillon Jackson) (0-1) started on the mound for the Purple Raiders and went 1.0 inning, giving up one run off one hit and walked two.
Baseball legends including Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and Willie Mays have played inside Sanford Memorial Stadium.
Mount Union is back in action Friday, March 8 with a doubleheader; first against Hope College at 2:30 pm., followed by Husson University at 5:45 p.m.
